Antonina “Nina” Barbuto – Big hearted and beloved family woman On Saturday, December 30, 2023, Antonina (Nina) passed away peacefully in her home in Somerset, New Jersey surrounded by her family at the age of 87. A viewing and mass will gather family and friends to celebrate her life. Nina was born on June 13, 1936 and grew up on a farm in the small town of Mirto, a providence of Messina in Sicily. She was the seventh of eight siblings to parents Concetta DiPane and Antonio LoPresti. Together the family made a living tending to the crops of the land. Through meeting each other with a picture and countless love letters Nina and Onofrio were married in Italy in 1959. In the same year of their marriage, they settled with family in Plainfield, New Jersey where they welcomed their daughter, Joanne (Giovanna). After the birth of their sons Antonino and Joseph, they relocated to Hillsborough, New Jersey in 1969 where they lived for 44 years. While raising her children Nina worked at Lehn & Fink in product production along being a homemaker. One of her most beloved titles was “Nonnie” to her five grandchildren and her great-grandson. Nina radiated her love through her actions. Simply put, Nina’s love language was food. Her home was a revolving door inviting family and friends over to share delicious meals cooked in the basement kitchen. It was a requirement to always show up hungry and a full meal meant you were eating at least two servings of pasta. Every summer, Nina and Onofrio would spend weeks converting their home-grown tomatoes into hundreds of jars of sauce that would nourish the family all year long. Beyond cooking, and reading Danielle Steele books, Nina enjoyed crocheting. Every family member has multiple blankets to keep warm with and to pass on for generations to come. She is predeceased by her husband Onofrio of 58 years. Parents, Concetta DiPane and Antonio LoPresti; siblings Concetta, Cirino, Veneranda , Gino, Guiseppina, and Guiseppe She is survived by her daughter Joanne and husband Mitch Seidman of Somerset, NJ, Anthony and wife Michele Barbuto of North Port, Fl, and Joseph Barbuto of Belmar, NJ. Grandchildren Rachel Kelly, Erica Barbuto, Joey Barbuto, Brandon Barbuto, Melissa Winters; and great grandson Mason. Her youngest brother Ottavio LoPresti of Raritan, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, sisters-in-laws, and many dear friends. A viewing will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Ketusky Funeral Home, 1310 Brooks Blvd., Manville, NJ. The Funeral will be on Saturday, January 6, 2024 9:30 a.m. from the Ketusky Funeral Home followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass at Mary Mother of God Church, 157 South Triangle Road, Hillsborough, NJ 08844. Immediately following Nina will be laid to rest at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Cemetery, 500 U.S. HWY 22, Bridgewater, NJ. In lieu of flowers, Nina’s family asks that donations be made in her name to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at www.LLS.org
