Dolores M. Serra

Dolores Mary Serra, 82 entered peacefully into eternal life on Thursday, August 4th, 2022 at home. She was born April 25, 1940 in Old Forge, PA. Daughter of the late Alphonso and Elizabeth Salerno. Dolores was predeceased by her loving husband Frank in 2005, and her sister Philomena Wengrzynek. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Manville for 60 years. She devoted many hours to the Altar Rosary Society where she was the Vice President. Her love of baking made her chairwoman of the bake sales, and her creativity in the kitchen gave us butter lambs to sell at Easter. Her love of decorating left us with a beautiful church for all to enjoy at Easter and Christmas. More than anything she loved to instill her talent and gifts into the younger generation she was helping to mold in the church at summer camp. Dolores was the matriarch of the Summer Festival, making sure everything ran smoothly, from food prep to fellowship. She was a member of the “Pierogi Angels” helping to fill and pinch hundreds of thousands of pierogies during holidays and summer festivals. Dolores will be sadly missed by her loving daughter Maribeth Thomaszfski, with whom she lived, her grandsons Robert and his wife Jackie of Washington, NJ, Dolores's final joy was being there to be a part of Robert and Jackie's wedding and Ryan with whom she also lived.The bond between Ryan and his grandmother was stronger than any other. They built a lifetime of unforgettable memories together. She taught him life lessons, creativity, compassion, and how to give more of himself to others. She was his role model. Also survived by her dearest brother Robert Salerno of Old Forge, Pennsylvania. Dolores also held a special place in her heart for her great grandson Lucas, and great granddaughter Skylar. All who have been touched by Dolores cherish priceless memories that will last with us forever. The viewing will be on Monday, August 8, 2022 from 4 to 7PM at the Ketusky Funeral Home, 1310 Brooks Blvd., Manville, NJ 08835. The Funeral will be on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 8:00 AM from the Ketusky Funeral Home followed by a 9:00 AM Mass at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Manville, NJ. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hillsborough, NJ.
