James E. Cason

James Earl "Jim" Cason, Sr., 87, of Swoyersville, PA, passed away at home on Monday, September 7. Born on October 30, 1938, in Porter, Oklahoma, he was the son of Claude Cason and Jewel (Garroutte) Cason-Chase. Jim was a proud member of the Cherokee Nation and honorably served his country in the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge, Jim moved to Manville, New Jersey, where he met the love of his life, Barbara Urban. Together, they raised four children and shared 55 wonderful years of marriage. Jim was employed by Research Cottrell in Bound Brook, NJ, and later worked for the General Services Administration in Belle Mead and Burlington, NJ. Upon his retirement in 2002, he and Barbara moved to Swoyersville, Pennsylvania. Jim was an avid sports fan who, in his younger years, could often be found coaching youth basketball and baseball. He also served as an umpire for various baseball and softball leagues throughout Central New Jersey. Beyond his love of sports, Jim enjoyed gardening and took great pride in growing enough vegetables to share with family, friends, and neighbors. In retirement, he enjoyed fishing, metal detecting, and visiting the local casino, affectionately referring to it as his "fun house." In recent years, he found great pleasure in sitting in his open garage, enjoying the fresh air and spending time with neighbors who always appreciated his company and a good conversation. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara; his son, James Cason, Jr.; his brothers, Paul, Bob, J.C., Bill, Ralph, and Jerry Cason; his sister, Imogene Beard; his daughter-in-law, Tamara Cason; and his son-in-law, Jamie Pini. Jim is survived by his son, Tom Cason of West Pittston, PA; his daughters, Glenda Pini of New Tripoli, PA, and Catherine Rutkoski and her husband, Joseph, of Bethlehem, PA; and his daughter-in-law, Carol Cason of East Stroudsburg, PA. He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren, James III, Michael, Stephanie, Daniel, Peter, Luke, Dillon, Griffin, Anthony, Phillip, Tamara, and MaryJo, as well as nine great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Monday, September 14, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Ketusky Funeral Home, 1310 Brooks Boulevard, Manville, NJ. The Funeral will be on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 8:00 AM from the Ketusky Funeral Home followed by a 9:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church of Christ the Redeemer Parish, 98 South 2nd Avenue, Manville, NJ. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hillsborough, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jim's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
