Louise M. Upshaw

Louise Mary Upshaw, died Monday October 28, 2013 at home with her loving family by her side. She was born in Brooklyn, NY to her late parents Charlotte and Francis Chonko. She grew up in Manville, NJ and lived most of her life in Hillsborough, NJ. Louise was a Graduate of Manville High School class of 1968 and then attended Trenton State College. She was employed by the Manville Public Library as a clerk for many years. She then was employed by the Manville Board of Education where she served as secretary to the principal of Roosevelt School and later for the principal of Manville High School. Most recently she was the secretary to the Board Administrator until her retirement. Louise was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Manville where she was actively involved with the preparations for the annual festival. She also volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister. Louise was an excellent cook and shared many of her recipes with friends and family members. When not working she could be seen working in her perennial garden which she loved very much. The most important thing to Louise was her family. She loved the holidays where she would get all family members together to have a joyous time. She would always include the family in summer vacations at Wildwood where she has been going for the past 35 years. Louise was a very loving person. Her wonderful smile and good nature will be truly missed by many, many friends and family. She is survived by her husband of 42 years Thomas Upshaw of Hillsborough, NJ, sons Jeffrey Upshaw of Silver Springs, Maryland, Scott Upshaw and his companion Jenna of Bridgewater, NJ and Kurt Upshaw and his wife Leigh Ann of Millville, NJ, her brother Robert Chonko and his wife Nancy of Martinsburg, Pa. and sisters Elizabeth Menzie and her husband Walter of Erwinna, Pa. and Cathy Walker and her husband James of Easton, Pa.. She is also survived by three grandchildren which she loved very much Kyle, Madison and Mia Upshaw. The viewing will be on Friday November 1, 2013 from 6 to 9 PM at the Ketusky Funeral Home, 1310 Brooks Blvd., Manville, NJ. The Funeral will be on Saturday November 2, 2013 8:15 AM from the Ketusky Funeral Home followed by a 9:00 AM Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Manville, NJ.
