Sophie Olszyk

Sophie Olszyk passed away Friday March 20, 2015 at Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center at Somerset in Somerville, NJ. She was born in Plainfield, NJ the daughter of the late Pearl and Walter Kulwinski. Mrs. Olszyk resided in Plainfield, NJ and Manville, NJ before moving to Hillsborough, NJ in 1960. She was a graduate of Bound Brook High School in Bound Brook, NJ and attended Drake College in New Brunswick, NJ majoring in secretarial skills. Mrs. Olszyk was employed as a secretary at the Bakelite Company, worked in Civil Service for 10 years, and worked for 30 years as secretary to the Manville Board of Education, retiring in 1986. She was a member of the NJ Education Association, NJ Association of Office Professionals, and the NJ Retired Education Association. Mrs. Olszyk was an avid reader of current and historical events, biographies, and the various arts and crafts. She also enjoyed traveling within the United States. Mrs. Olszyk was an active member and communicant of Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Manville, NJ. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Henry Olszyk in 1990, her beloved sister Rose Lorenick and brother John Kulwinski. Surviving are her loving and cherished nieces: Carol Shutack of Bridgewater, NJ; Roseann Perez of Lumberton, NJ; and Karen Martinson and husband Victor of Pitman, NJ. Also surviving is her beloved stepson Henry Olszyk and wife Dorothy of Englewood, Florida; her grand-niece Brianna, grand-nephews John and Carl, step-grandson Hank Olszyk and wife Monica and step-granddaughter Rebecca Olszyk and two great-grandchildren Kai and Addison Olszyk. The viewing will be on Monday March 23, 2015 from 5 to 8 PM at the Ketusky Funeral Home, 1310 Brooks Blvd., Manville, NJ. (908)575-8512. The Panachida will take place at 6:00 PM during the viewing and will be conducted by Father James Parcells. The Funeral will take place on Tuesday March 24, 2015 8:30 AM from the Ketusky Funeral Home followed by a 9:30 AM Funeral Service at Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Manville, NJ. Burial will follow at Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Cemetery in Hillsborough, NJ.
