    Irene M. Shelcusky

    August 14, 1928 - December 14, 2021

    MANVILLE - Irene M. (Rusnak) Shelcusky died Tuesday December 14, 2021 peacefully at home surrounded by her children. She was born on August 14, 1928 in Wilkes Barre, PA. Daughter of the late Stephen Rusnak and Sophie Janov Rusnak. Irene had 5 siblings who preceeded her, Emily, Sophie, Stephen, Joseph, and Mary. She was a resident of Manville for the past 68 years. Irene was a member of Christ the King Roman Catholic Church. Irene was a very kind woman who adored her family and enjoyed cooking home cooked meals for them, especially from her Slovak recipes. She canned every summer from her vegetable garden. She made delicious kirby pickles, she had been named the Pickle Queen by her family. Irene loved to read, complete crossword puzzles, and do plastic needle pointing. Those creations will be cherished by her family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren as each one had a special place in her heart. Irene was preceeded in 2013 by her loving husband of 58 years Augustus "Gus" Shelcusky. She is survived by her three children, David Shelcusky and his wife Diane of Lavalette, NJ, Richard Shelcusky and his wife Donna of Calabash, NC, and her daughter, Lisa Libonati and her fiance Christopher Britt of Surfside Beach, SC. She is survived by 5 grandchildren, Jessica Shelcusky of Hillsborough NJ, Brady Shelcusky and his wife Melissa of South Brunswick, NJ, Derek Shelcusky and his girlfriend Hong of South Brunswick, NJ, Cody Shelcusky, and his wife Amanda of South Brunswick NJ, and Thomas Libonati of Little River, SC and 2 great granddaughters, Gianna Noel and Mia Rose. Irene also leaves behind two cherished nieces, Mary "Tootsie" Shorts, of Wilkes-Barre, PA and Joan Gillroy of Brookfield CT., and Joseph Rebarchak, who preceeded her. The viewing will be Friday, December 17, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Ketusky Funeral Home 1310 Brooks Blvd, Manville, NJ. The funeral will take place Saturday, December 18, 2021 at 8:00 am from the Ketusky Funeral Home, followed by a 9:00 am mass at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church (Christ The Redeemer Parish) , 98 South 2nd Avenue Manville NJ. Following the mass, she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Hillsborough, NJ. The family would like to thank RW Johnson VNA Hospice for making her final days comfortable. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to : Manville First Aide and Rescue Squad, 2 South Third Avenue, Manville NJ 08835 or to Christ the Redeemer Parish, P.O. Box 924, Manville, NJ 08835 Irene will be dearly missed.
