Victoria Soika passed away peacefully at her home in Manville, NJ on October 15, 2021 at the age of 99. She was born on December 7, 1921 in Highland, PA (near Freeland) to Peter and Eve Martonis, the youngest of nine children. As a child she loved to dance, roller skate and ice skate. In school she excelled in drawing, writing and composition, though her favorite subject was history. Victoria graduated from Foster Township High School and played on the girls basketball team there. In April of 1946 Victoria married Thomas Soika, who was her husband for 34 years until his death in 1980. They soon moved to New Jersey and eventually settled in Manville. The couple had four children. Victoria was a devout Catholic and a member of the Altar-Rosary Society of Christ the King Parish. She gained much comfort from prayer. She also liked to cook (including wonderful spaghetti and meatballs), garden (prized tomatoes) and sing aloud. She was a devoted mother who worked long hours outside the home to make sure her children had the necessities in life. After her children were grown Victoria managed the International Showcase store in Somerville, NJ. In addition to her parents, siblings and husband, Victoria is predeceased by sons Thomas and James Soika, and daughter Mary Folkner and her husband Richard. She is survived by son Michael Soika and his wife Laurie, former daughter-in-law Robbie Soika and her partner Henry Robert Scaffedi, grandchildren Jennifer Soika, Keith Soika and his wife Kim, Renee Soika, David Folkner, Christopher Folkner, Ashley Folkner, Michael Folkner and Alexandra Folkner, and great-grandchildren Avery Soika and Jaxon Ortu. She is also survived by Regina, her health aide for several years. The viewing will be on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 from 7:30 to 8:30 AM at the Ketusky Funeral Home, 1310 Brooks Blvd., Manville, NJ 08835. There will be a 9:00 AM Mass that day at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church (Christ the Redeemer Parish) in Manville, with burial to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hillsborough.
